- The Official 2005 Presidential Inaugural Medal included a Certificate of Authenticy dated January 3, 2005 and signed by Mercer and Gabrielle Reynolds, Co-Chairs of the Presidential Inaugural Committee.
- The Official Medal also included a “History of the Official Inaugural Medal” written by H. Joseph Levine.
- Gladys Gunzer was the first woman to sculpt an official inaugural medal. Prior to 1990, Gunzer worked as Senior Sculptor at the Medallic Art Company.
- Gunzer’s portrait of the President and the Vice-President conveys “a feeling of looking forward, both in a futuristic sense and in an anticipatory one – to finish what we have started.”
